I have ordered 3 batches of BLRW eggs, all from different people, different parts of the country. Batch 1 I got (3) out of 9.....Batch 2 is due to hatch Tues. candled the eggs yesterday, I have (3) out of 14 that are developed, none of the others had nothing..no blood spot no nothing...I have not candled the 3rd batch they are not due to hatch until the 6th...

In the first Batch my uncle had put some Orps, and Bramhas in with my BLRW...out of 18 eggs 16 of his hatched, same bator same everything....

So I'm wondering are these eggs or chickens, harder to hatch than others, are their fertility any different than any other...Or the eggs I ordered just duds?

Can someone give me some input? I have never had this terrrible of a hatch rate..EVER in 5yrs...

Hi
I've not had a problem hatching the local BLRW hatching eggs I've received. Maybe it's the shipping your eggs received? Try to get eggs from someone closer or at least a different area then you got the others from and hopefully that will help. Also eggs from people that live close to the major airports seem to be better hatching for me (they get here faster due to the plane ride). Hope this helps.

I think I'm going to have to do something different, with as much as I have spent on eggs that 3/4 of them will not hatch...I probably could have bought live chicks. Even though when I was pricing them I was like wow....

I just so diasppointed I had such high hopes, I have wanted this breed for almost 3 yrs....now that I splurge I get nothing.....

I will keep my hopes up for the next batch to hatch!! Thanks for your info..

I'm in IL, my batches came from GA, KY, WA.....This is bad when you live right in the middle ??

Hmm.. I let my shipment lay out on the table overnight after unpacking to settle as suggested. The breeder also mentioned that when placed in the incubator to not turn on the turner for 24 hours which I followed. I had 18 eggs from Idaho and 16 eggs hatched. My first run at shipped eggs were Lemon Cochins from San Diego and of that dozen 5 hatched and I was thrilled.

When I recieved them I put them on the counter and did not put them in all day, until I new that they were room temp on the first batch..... the last two batches I waited till the next day cause they did not come in till afternoon.. I just do not know what I did wrong i guess....I hatched out coockoo marans , BJG, and RI whites last yr and out of 2 incubators full i think I may have had 5-7 not hatch...and I still have all those chickens and they are great egg layers....

I just called my cousins and last yr she ha tried to incubate BLRW last yr and had the same problem...she spend $90 for a doz. and only got 3 to hatch...for $90 I could buy a doz and 1/2 of already hatched chicks.... I think I'm ranting now...sorry

I just won an auction for 10+ BLRWs from Washington to south NJ. I hope mine hatch okay! They should be shipped out tomorrow or so. I'm going to let them settle for a day or two before I put them in the 'bator, and I'll let you know how it turns out for me.

Do you candle and do eggtopsies? Are the eggs nonfertile, early quitters, late quitters or just fully developed and never hatch? It could be non-fertility, incubation problems or shipping problems. What was the weather like when you ordered and had the eggs shipped? 50% hatch is considered a great rate on shipped eggs. most get lower rates. anything about is just bonus.
Local eggs might be better if you can find them.
