how hi do hens fly

I got some bird netting and put over the area they are going to have. no to just put up the gate part and maybe tomorrow afternoon they'll have some extra play room, til the easter eggers get here then i'll have a temp 'home' for them in the yard while they get acquainted.

Our heavy breed chickens can fly straight up onto a 7 ft. high hay shed roof. Make your run fencing high enough so that you don't need to crouch and also have it covered. Free range fencing is fine at 4 ft. high. Give them plenty of reasons to stay in the free range area and they will not be going over the fencing.

Some of my heavy bottom gals don't do so well on take off. Especially with a bit of age to them. More like the Spruce Goose. But trim gals about a year old that are always on the run darting in and out of the creek and up and down the side of the mountain like to mount to the trees and I believe they would roost there except I call here kitty kitty and toss catfood into their yards at about sunset. They count on the cat food as a nice snack at night.
The pheasant do quite well on take off anytime they can only we have never been ale to get them to come back after thay one time. My son does not always think clearly.

thank you i put bird netting over top of the pen, there's only one small area I couldn't get covered, but I've fixed the 'play yard' with stuff to keep them happy I hope. Will eventually build them a bigger more permanent yard with cover.
