How I became queen of the bachelor squad.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Do you keep all the males away from the females?

So, I realize that my situation may be very unsual, but nope!

One of my roo's, Agamemnon, is the king I suppose, as he has the 4 australorp hens in tow. Then there is the dynamic duo, Achilles and I.D. Achilles spends ALL day and I really mean all day babying the heck out of ID, who is the chubbiest ball of fluffy butt, and finding her snacks 24/7.

The remaining 4 roosters are my little squad. There was a 5th at one point, my favorite boi Troy, but unfortunately a coyote, according to a neighbor down the road, had him in its jaws one early morning. He was a bit of a loner and liked to venture out early.

They do occasionally get into scuffles, but after somewhat more intense fighting it out for 2 months when they were 6-7 months old, they more or less stopped. I was pretty worried I would have to find them homes since I had read mostly terrible things about multiple roosters but I guess I got lucky. I did stop a couple of the nastier fights and kept a close eye on them but no one was seriously injured and I think they worked through it.

I have 2 coops so that they can pick where they go, and they sort of divided themselves. During the day though, they generally all hang out in the same dust baths and don't bicker much.

I think having a lot of space and hiding places may have contributed to the success of this. I also have them fairly humanized since I can pick up almost everyone with ease. Of course things can always change, but so far, so good!
