As a mom and a former Kid, I think the plastic eggs are the way to go. You can stuff them with yummy sugary stuff that they can take HOME to Dad! You can keep them for next year or donate them to good will or a kids group that is always looking for these eggs around easter time.

I was always disappointed as a kid after the easter egg hunts with real eggs because all you got was a bunch of egg salad! Nothing wrong with it until your 3rd or 4th sandwich...but it sure isn't chocolate.
