How Is Cackle Hatchery

i just got their catalog in the mail saturday and was wondering the same thing. i ran into someone this weekend that says that you get really good deals if you go there and pick them up. i noticed that each breed had to be ordered in lots of 5 and their old english games are expensive.

Ok thanks. I will try to call right now, although I might be at it for a while.

Well, I got thru. The woman was very nice, but she told me my chicks wouldn't be here till June.

That sucks. I don't know if I can wait that long.

You can cancel, but there is something about a cancellation fee. I read up on that because I was going to cancel my order with them. Unfortunately, they had shipped on the same morning that I called to cancel. Coincidence?

Since you are so far from the ship date, maybe you could cancel with no fee. I canceled an order with McMurray and they didn't charge me a fee, but it was about a month before my anticipated ship date.

are there any other hatcheries that could get me some chicks any sooner. the ones i have checked are all backed up too.

It's just the time of year....best to stay where you are than risk loosing your spot and getting put even farther behind somewhere else.

I ordered from Ideal several weeks ago and my order wasn't due until the week of May 13. They actually called me late last week to ask if they could ship them to me the following Monday. (Today!!) I called today to verify and they have been shipped. I'm so excited!

Got
these wednesday - NICE brahmas - I'm pleased with them

Just an update...

I'm not so pleased anymore.

I got 15 delawares early May (after three shipping delays) and of the 15, 8 of them are now dead - and the rest don't look that well.

They were small when they arrived, but I wrote that off to being hatchery chicks. They are about 6 weeks old, now, and are dying by the twos and threes - every day.

They are not thriving, are weak and puffed looking - don't seem to be contageous, as none of the other chicks are ill or dying. I believe it is a "bad stock" (genetic) thing.

I oost two of the brahmas, also - not unheard of, but considering out of the 300 chicks I've ordered from hatcheries this year, these are the only ones that die off in any numbers to count. (had one other death from my own hatched chicks - no other (different) hatchery chicks have died on me this year).

Out of 40 chicks ordered from Cackle - I have had 11 of them die so far (still counting, the last two were found this morning). Out of the 15 Delawares, 8 have died - this is not a good ratio, IMO.

I'm not even going to bother to call or complain to them - I simply won't order from them ever again. Just wanted everyone else to know - be careful what you order from them.
