How is your flock today?

I enjoy surprise chicks

I like seeing what hatches and if there might be something that's wrong with them. So far I've been lucky, and only a few have had the hard poppy vent's that had to be cleaned. It's easier to take care of the chick's without having to fight a hen or rooster to do it. Plus, they get used to being handled for when they get sold.

I've never had pasty butt so idk. but it is true that the hand raised ones are easier to make friendly

but letting a mom do the work is so easy
It would be our first time around to hatch any babies. We have a pair of ducks who always hang together and are very sweet on each other. I would like to pen them two up this next spring to see if they could have any babies naturally on their own?

I do plan on investing in an incubator and learning how that whole process works, but right now we don't have the extra room to add more to the flock and I am very busy on remodel projects so my time is very limited at the moment. But it's on the list! LOL

I also like your 5gal nesting bucket idea, that seems quick and simple enough! :)
