How is your flock today?

Pics
Last evening when I was putting everyone away for the night, I had to snap this funny pic. The Girls are just now starting to let Chewy sit on the same perch as them at night! :gig

These pics are from yesterday morning, the temp dropped down to 17F and there was 1/4" of ice on their little pool.

Pretty Girl is usually the first one to hit the pool when I open the Coop in the morning and some times she leave claw marks as she slides across the top.

Then when I bust open the Ice they all like to gather around and start nibbling on it until its gone. Since Miss Piggy can't reach of the side like the bigger ducks, she jumps right in the middle of it all. Those Silly Turkeys! LOL

It's raining here, but the girl's gave me 6 egg's today. I have more pullet's here that haven't started laying yet, though.
Are you getting very much rain or just enough to keep the dust down? We are getting dumped on again for the next two day, calling for icy rain so this should be fun. We also made a hay run Saturday morning before the weather turned for the other four legged animals so they are sitting good now for awhile. :)

Our egg count has dropped off with our ducks, only one duck egg yesterday and three chicken. No complaints on this end as long as they are all staying healthy! :)

I got some good rain on Friday. At least it was more than just a little sprinkle. I think that's why it was foggy yesterday morning like that.

This spring when they start popping out too many egg's, I'm going to boil some up, peel, and chop and freeze them for times when they slow down. I did a bunch of them up like that last year and had them in the deep freezer. Then in the summer, just take some out and thaw them to make thing's like egg or potato salad's. (Many restaurant's have bagged frozen chopped egg's for the salad bar's.) You can also feed some back to the flock mixed into some wet feed. I save the crushed egg shell's to feed back to the flock also.

@BlueBaby Good rain is nice as long as you don't get it all in 5 minutes! LOL Yesterday we missed the icy rain because it was to warm, but it did rain most of the day and everything is a super muddy mess again!

I too have looked into different methods of storing eggs long term and I thought this was a cool way to go about and would like to try it for curiosity. Awesome info and video below if you care to have a look see. :D

I will from time to time scramble their extra eggs and feed back to them and also the shells. I think its great that nothing goes to waste and it's healthy for them. :)

They say the ground squirrel seen his shadow this morning and predicts six more weeks of winter. The up side of this is, from 2008-2018 he has only been right 40% of the time, so there is hope he is wrong! :gig :lau

Are you sure that he seen his shadow? He is pretty old now, and he might not have good eyesight like he used to. :old
