Quick update: Happy to report her eye is open and far less swollen this morning, so we think the antibiotics were just what she needed. 
Her breathing is also far more even now, so I'm thinking that maybe the swelling in her face put pressure on her sinuses, forcing her to work a little harder to breathe.
