how long after external pip does the chick hatch

it needed help, I went to sleep at 2:30 something, woke up at 6:00, the chick was still in it's shell, but the body was bulging out where it's beak was and it was getting weaker, wasn't cheeping, but moved it's beak. I decided to help, and it wasn't moving much after helping, so I put the chick back in the incubator, prayed and went back to sleep. Woke again at 9, and that little chick is now opening it's eyes and moving around throwing a fit. the way it's moving around. I'm not sure if the rest of the clutch are quitters or not, ill have to do the float check and see, but now that I know that chick is still fighting, my full attention's on it.

Right now im trying to get it to fluff up, with little results

Sometimes weak chicks take longer to fluff up, especially if they have dried out in the egg. If it is still kind of weak I would suggest offering an easy to grip surface, warmth but also a place to escape from over-heating (not a large brooder, but enough room to thermoregulate). Offer a shallow waterer or hold him next to water with electrolytes/vitamins in it and offer some finely chopped scrambled eggs. He should perk up and dry off as he eats and starts digesting. Once he is strong enough not to get stuck in a corner or trampled he can be introduced to other chicks, which will prevent depression and get him more energetic and willing to eat and explore.

Best of luck!

well, he's still laying down, but perks up when I make a call ive been doing since they were 6 days into incubation as an experiment, or when I hold it.

I have no other chicks atm that are small enough for it, but another chick has pipped it's shell. right now, I am suppose to asleep as first day of school starts in the morning, so ill have to advise my mother to make him scrambled eggs, or do it myself if I get up early enough, and to go get some electrolytes for the little one.

If the chick hasn't finished hatching within 24 hrs, then you should wrap it in a moist paper towel and put it into the incubator.
