How long after nest building will eggs be laid?

I enlarged this image to see better and there appears to be a difference in wattle development with the light check[?] having the larger and the bar a smaller[more feminine] wattle.

that's a cockbird

That's what I was figuring, thanks! Speaking of which, that's a nice looking Bobwhite cockbird in your profile pic! Funny little birds they are, with very tasty eggs. They can be mean SOBs though, quite ornery little critters lol, just like my chukars.

Another thing possibly worthy of noting. #3 was my first bird to tame and eat peanuts from my hand. She was the boldest and most friendly the earliest on. I chalk that up to intelligence, but who knows. Anyways, in the past week or so, however, she has been somewhat nasty to me, and pecks at me hard and threatens wing slaps. I wonder if this has anything to do with the mating or reproduction process?

In any event, when there are peanuts in my hand, although she still appears ticked off that my hand is close (which is a new thing for her), she still eats them, but she does it in an angry way--she sort of pecks at me hard as if she's made, yet grabs a peanut with each peck nonetheless lol. Clever and sneaky... and a bit funny.

Hormonal teen female ...
Wonder how far she is from point of lay?
Once they started laying my pullets became friendly again. DK about pigeons.

Hokum posted above with some time frames... but I guess timing from today all sort of depends on when they copulate? Aren't they supposed to do the whole mating dance, and once they start feeding each other that is pretty much it and means they have copulated or are at least right about to copulate?

Sounds right, I'll try to do some more research. :caf

Yes, very funny..
Here's how to get her back ... get a packet of the chopped peanuts that McDonalds gives with their fudge sundae. about 50 tiny pieces fit in a tablespoon. [i believe you are giving much bigger pieces now] I would like to see her reaction when instead of 1/2 a nut, you offer one the size of a lentil!:lau

Lol, she would just peck at my hand erratically. She has been moody, but I still love her. She's hormonal, can't blame her.

I can just crush up the peanuts with a hammer like I did when they were much smaller birds.
