How long can a chicken stay in hiding

Something grabbed Chicken Little this morning. No evidence but she is gone. She was my favorite! Going on serious predator patrol tomorrow morning.

Ugh, that’s so devastating. I’m so sorry about chicken little. My girls have been locked up since Sunday.. they hate me. But I’m not ready to let them back out yet.. my heart is crushed.

I swear I can hear a chicken calling from the woods some times, I can swear on it! I thought I was going crazy? Maybe I am. I’ll give a week tops. I read some persons chickens came back a week later. I know what the outcome is.. I just can’t get myself to stop looking for her. Thanks for replying. Everyone is giving me food answers. Sorry about your chicken
If you gotta hack your way through the forest to settle it then do it haha! For me, it was foot deep flooded, there was swimming fire ants everywhere, and I was on the verge of a mental breakdown trying to put a makeshift coop together for 20 something chickens in torrential rain. :barnieIf I coulda I woulda I guess. At least when you find a body there’s closure. :/
I never free range so I never thought of the idea of some breeds being more homebound than others, if that’s even a thing.. maybe someone else can shed light on that.

Ours free range in the woods! We are lucky we have only lost 3 to predators in the last year. Took out a bobcat that killed a hen and a couple of other critters for trying. Pretty sure whatever got Chicken Little will be back. Mr Mossberg with 3.5 #4s is waiting.

We’re borrowing my friends havaheart trap to try and catch the fox + raccoons that’s been hanging around so hopefully we’ll take care of the problem some what.
