How long do real Christmas trees last??

We cut ours today. We did it the same time last year. We buy a Fraser Fir. They are said to have the best needle retention. Ours lasted through New Years last year. I check the water daily.

I am no longer allowed to have "real" trees in the house. Something about the swarm of tree frogs that infested the apartment the last time. *shrug* there were ONLY a few dozen of them. So what if our houseguest was terrified of frogs?? How was I supposed to know that they would climb into the futon where she was sleeping?????

I can't find the tree frog that came in with my citrus tree this fall. It's in the tree, or the pot, somewhere and randomly lets us know it's still there.

It was kinda nice. the little spiders didn't leave the tree, just covered it with webs. Kinda pretty. I did not like taking it apart outside and washing every single ornament afterwards.

don't know if I'd appreciate tree frogs.
It was on the news (I think or BYC) a few years ago that someone opened their tree up and found a live owl in the tree.

Imp- I promised red that any spiders I put in her tree would spin gold webs for her.

Did you cut a couple inches off the bottom? That always makes a big difference in how long they last, ideally you can put them in a bucket of warmish water and cut the trunk that way...its not easy though. If you do that the tree will still be able to drink up a lot of water and will stay quite green and fresh for 4-5 weeks. Ours always last quite a while, in fact some of our trees are still green and fresh after they've been put outside for a month or two lol

See now, I'd find that beautiful and would have to leave it that way.

I always add 2 crushed Asprin per foot of tree. 2cups 7UP, 1cup sugar added to water to start. 1x per week add 1cup sugar, 6 Asprin mixed with water. Have had trees that last 6 weeks or more with this recipe.

Okay ladies, time for my tip of the day:

Keep a can of green spray paint handy to touch up the dead-looking
brown spots as needed. Avaliable at most hardware stores, you have
to ask for it. "pine tree green".

A couple of cans, you can get any tree through Christmas.

Spook
