How long do you wait until you intervene?

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. He is still alive but he doesn't seem to be making any attempts to get out of the egg. I'm worried about him getting shrink wrapped because I did peels some of it away. I saw a little blood though so I stopped. Put him back in on a soaked paper towel and am waiting and watching again. I have another one in there that is also trying to hatch and that one is upside down...not sure what is going on there but I'm not too worried about that one yet. I was enjoying this when they were hatching out or just duds...but this life and death stuff is quite stressful. I get too attached to the eggs themselves, never mind when I actually see a baby!

I only helped once and that was just a couple days ago!! I'm a wreck! When I was helping this guy, I swear I saw blood. If I had done something bad though I figure he would be dead by now because that was 3 hours ago. I worry about opening the bator again because there is another one in there that that has a decent sized hole and one that has a small external pip, but I haven't seen anything out of that one for hours now...no wiggle no nothing. My hydrometer is broken so I can't even check that...this is turning into a nighmare! He's breathing, but he is no longer chirping at all...well I heard some peeping but I don't know who was doing it....sigh

Yep you risk shrink wrapping the others when you open the bator. when I helped my duckling she was under my duck, just couldn't hatch she started on Friday and by Sunday still having problems so I began to help, I'd chip and put her back, thank goodness I never saw any blood. so I'd say she was ready to hatch but her membrane was dried out. By Monday Morning I was able to chip enough and put her back under mama and she hatched in about 2 hrs. I can tell you it was worse than having my babies. lol I wish I could tell you what the best thing is to do, I just don't know.

Yeah...she didn't make it. I do believe the issue may have stemmed from her being too big to actually turn in the egg. I was up until 2 a.m., I don't know if I help or hindered which will haunt me now. Yes, that is Jake the Drake. He's one of the Muscovy Clan that roams around here! I love the Muscovy Ducks, they are a clan unto themselves! He was our first and he is awesome!

The other pipped egg that I was worried about I had to rescue today. That one was shrink wrapped. That one is also fine, thankfully. He had made progress over night but only the egg shell was coming off, the membrane wasn't going anywhere. I spray it with mist and waited all day for some more progress and decided I better help. All went well and he is doing great. Now there is one more in there that is only slightly pipped and it may already be gone. I have seen nothing more out of that one for 2 days now...this used to fun.
