how long does it take a quail to lay eggs

i am wondering how long does it take a quail to lay an egg? how long will it take to lay a fertile eggs? does quail need special feed or will starter feed work for them?

btw its bob white quail

I believe Bobs take up to 6 months. Coturnix start in 8 weeks.

Mine were 6 1/2 weeks and 7 1/2 weeks yesterday, and I got my first egg. I'm not sure who laid it, though.

Bobwhites are a lot slower to muture then coturnix. I believe it is 12 weeks. I could be wrong

We picked up week old bobwhite quail in July of 2008 and just started getting eggs beginning of May 2009. I read that may be because they don't lay in winter.

I still don't get one a day.

Bobwhites are mature at 16 weeks, but can take 20-24 weeks before laying their first eggs.

Gamebird feed is optimal but nonmedicated starter will work too.
Give them green veggies to munch on to. They also enjoy sand
for dustbathing and grit.
