How long does it take for a chicken to lay an egg?

Depends on the breed and also individual variation between breeds. Most chicken breeds start laying at around 5 months. Many people state the age in weeks. 20-24 weeks being average. Some breeds like the sexlinks, are bred to start earlier, some as early as 16 weeks.
I have different breeds, some started at 18 weeks, some not until 7-8 months of age. 🙂

Hello chicken friends, just wondering what is considered a normal amount of time it takes for a chicken to lay an egg? 🐓❤️
My birds can take from 10 minutes to nearly an hour! The hour layers just like to chill in the nesting box even after they are done laying. Maybe its comfortable?

But yeah, they take about 10-30 minutes to lay an egg, but some like to stay in the box and rest.

Somewhere in the neck of the woods of around 4-6 months to begin laying, roughly 24 hours between each egg, and usually around 10 minutes to lay an egg. I find a chicken can actually physically lay in a matter of 30 seconds, they just like to sit in there for awhile.

I think it depends on the chicken. I have one, a Brahma, who goes up and down in the boxes for at least an hour or so before she actually settles in to lay. Then I have my Barred Rock and Leghorns who go in and do their business, maybe 15ish min. The rest I haven't really kept tabs on.
