How long does it take to get over a move?

Do they need oyster shells and grit if they can free range and also are fed a layer feed? Thanks, Kay

They need a good laying mash, pellet or crumble to produce eggs...oyster shell is needed for calcium, since they free range grit is not needed, they will find that in the scratching around in the dirt...I've had hens take up to a month before laying again after being moved to a new surrounding...

We adopted 2 new hens into our flock this summer. One of us gave us an egg the very next day. She was the dominant one, and she bacame the dominant hen of the whole flock very quickly. The other hen didn't give us an egg for about 2 weeks! She still doesn't lay as much as the other one, but she is also at the bottom of the pecking order and that may make a difference.

Our hens are 4 months old and not laying yet and they just moved to our house yesterday. So from this thread I guess that they will start laying at 6 months, in Dec/January.

This is probably a silly question but do they lay eggs year round or do they slow down in the winter?

if you move laying hens to a new place.it could take them a week to a month to adjust to their new home.
