Welcome to BYC!

Are you talking about sexing chicks? Depends on what breeds you are raising, but generally you can tell by a few months old as to who is a pullet and who is a cockerel. The cockerels will usually start to develop fast growing red combs and wattles earlier than the pullets. They will also have thicker legs, and can start to crow at 2 or 3 months old. It depends on the breeds as to when they mature and start to breed and lay.

What breeds are these? You can post some pics in our What Gender section here on BYC for some possibly sexing depending on how old they are....

Good luck with your new flock and enjoy BYC!

Welcome to BYC. You can generally (depending upon the breed) differentiate gender at about 8 + weeks. Cockerels will start breeding around 4 months of age and pullets will start laying a month to a month and a half after that.
