I have 4 chickens since Early may of this this year...We just got our first two eggs yesterday! I feel like a proud parent! My first time raising Chickens and I love it. The first egg was double yoked...is that a sign of good luck? hee hee...
we've been raising chickens for around 10 years. we have RIR's & leghorns & orpingtons, this is our second time for ducks, we have 2 khaki campbell ducks, Daffy & Daisy.
Our day-old chicks (hopefully females) arrived July 5th - we have 12 araucana/americaunas and 1 buff cochin. We love them and so do our dogs and cat. The dogs run out to visit the chickens everytime we let them out! We are just waiting for them to start laying and also wondering if any end up being roosters. Next year, we are definitely getting more!
I remember my very first chick of my own at 4 years old. Let this be warning,.... never let a 4 y.o. have a chick,.... unattended.
I'm 54 years old,
& don't ever remember NOT having birds. I now have,...... 4 Purple Peafowl, 9 Royal Palm Turkeys, 1 mixed breed turkey, 27 Lavender Orpingtons, 14 Salmon Faverolles, 11 BBS Andalusians, 9 BBS Jersey Giants, 4 Pearl & 4 White Guineas, 3 BBS Rosecombed Bantams, 16 Racing Homing Pigeons, & 33 White Homing Pigeons. I think that's all.
Hi I'm Shelley,
Homeschool Mom to 6 great kids. We recently made the very difficult decision to get rid of one of our dogs, who decimated the 3 previous flocks of chickens. : Well, we now have 14 sweet hens and one young rooster, AND THEY ARE ALL still ALIVE!!!!
We are having so much fun watching their antics. Looking forward to the wisdom of the 'board', and nice knowing we have a plethora of resources available. Have a great day!
