How long have you had chickens?

Mine were a birthday gift from my daughter I love them so much (except for the bully chickie) so Ive had mine since March 26th 2011. I have been studying and have learned that many of my doggie meds ( i raise and show Chinese crested dogs and am pretty much a crested expert, but dont know squat about chickens) on my chickens. this morning I dewormed my older (4 week olds) chickens with pyrantel pamoate. now it is trick to get it in them, but i did it. I used a needless syringe and placed one drop of pyrantel under the tongue. Now to inspect poop for a day or so. How long does it take for food to go thru a chicken?
I am still looking to buy some day old Serama's , and polish black with white crest chickens. I live in Branson Missouri my name is Donna

Chickens are definitely trending right now in the suburbs.
We got ours 2 years ago when we moved to an acre lot in central New Jersey. My wife was pretty upset but now loves having them. We recently moved cross country and are right in town, luckily the town allows chickens so we started over. Should be enjoying fresh eggs in September!

I am a Newbie -
I got my First Chickens Ever shortly after I joined BYC.

I am also a recent transplant to the country from Chicago & got the chickens thinking they'd help with bugs in my pastures.
I never expected them to be so entertaining.
The eggs are a bonus, but I have become an Egg Snob and rarely order eggs when I eat out.

I am falling prey to Chicken Math and find myself thinking a few more would be fun.....
In the beginning I wanted just 2 or 3...you can see where that went

19 years now, I started with 2 Leghorns. No books, no internet, no friends who knew about chickens...... I was totally in the dark! Somehow, we all survived!

Within a couple of years, half of South Austin had hens!

Mom always said I was a bad influence on others.......................

Current status is 23 chickens (one's broody) and 4 ducks.
