How long have you had chickens?

how many eggs do you get from your hens now that they are 4 years old????

69+ years off and on.

I'm "off" right now, but that is soon to be rectified--I do; however, have 120+ pigeons.

2008, 3 years for us.

But our Alderman stopped by last week, saying he supports pet roosters in town gardens, said he always had one, they're great pets with the little flock of chickens, and so pretty. He said people are really missing out if they can't keep a rooster, too. According to him, he grew up in this town with many yards of little flocks, just about everybody had some. That was in the 40's to the late 60's, he said.

Right now, I hate to imagine life without chickens. I hope my kids can have a little bunch of chickens when they grow up.

Then again, the way things are going, maybe the kids will just still be HERE with my chickens..... we'll have to build them little huts out by the coop...

Since March,2010. Both of us grew up on farms with chickens around but it's taken 30 years to get our own flock.

We have had chickens for over 10 yrs. And always the outlaw. I don't think they were "approved" for zoning in any of our places. After reading our current HOA (never listed chickens or even fowl for that matter) We have done it again. No complaints yet. Boy those girls are noisy!

Many different flocks. Currently raising 4 Meaties, 3 Bantams (one of which is the coolest roo), 2 Barred Rocks, 2 EE's, 1 RIR, 1 White Leghorn. None are laying right now. That is a first.

We brought home our first chickens last year on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We started off with an EE, a white leghorn, a barred rock, a Rhode Island red, and a welsummer. The barred rock and the EE are the only ones still alive. The welsummer was sick for 4 months before I finally figured the poor girl had had enough and needed a dirt nap (she was starting to really suffer, but she was really sweet and was our favorite for a long time).

As a grown-up, not quite a year (my Big Girls are a year, next month).
But was raised on a hatchery farm, as a child, so having chickens is the most normal thing in the world!
