How long have you had chickens?

I got chicks when my daughter was a toddler. I had been around chickens off and on over the years, but didn't really care for them. My daughter made having chickens a great adventure. So now, we've had some of our layers for 4+ years, we do a batch or two of meaties each year, and we have had ducks and geese for 2 years. Chickens have become my favorite hobby and I have convinced several people/friends/neighbors to become chicken owners, as well.

Funny thing- If you had told me 6 years ago that I would have 30 birds wandering around my yard, I would have said you were out of your mind. Who would have guessed that chickens could be so fun and entertaining.

This July will be one year that i got my rooster

, and June will be one year that i got my Pullets

6 months.... started out with 5 "spent 3 yr old hens" listed on craigs that are all laying consitently 3-4eggs/day plus one roo gifted from MIL that was destined for the table otherwise. Already have nearly 100 more here, coops are underway... We will always have chickens from here on!

I'm a newbie at this and should have done it years ago!!!!! The house I'm at has 3 1/2 acres and 1 acre is a garden.My flock loves the flower beds!!! Kevin

Two years of plus and minus chicken math ... lost a few, gained a few ... up to twelve now and I WANT MORE BABY CHICKS.
I hope to have about twenty, otherwise, if more I'll need a bigger coop.
