How long should I let her sit for? Pleeeeease help!!!

I've also heard that Broody hens take longer than incubators.. since they jump off the eggs daily (or they should) and their outside exposed to the elements.. Sit on your hands, let it run a week over, you dont want to pull out eggs that are a day or two from hatching

If the chicks don't hatch, she will get up off that nest and life will go on as usual. You don't *have to* give her chicks to raise or more eggs to hatch. She is not a human lady that has already had a baby shower. She is a chicken.

That's good to know - I haven't ever had a broody hen before either, and I just though they would sit and sit like they would if you didn't give them eggs...

Thanks for your advice. I did not realise food was such a big thing. She doesnot come off her nest, so I have to put the food right inside it and was a bit concerned of contamination! I had tried layer mash and she was not interested.

I followed your advice and put some scrambled eggs. She loved it and finish it all! And I saw a tiny little hole in one of her eggs.

WhooHooo!! You have a pip! I'm glad she liked the eggs, it always makes me go ewww, but they seem to really like them and it gives a good protien boost. Make sure to update (with pictures!!) tomorrow and let us know how many chicks you end up with. I'm excited for you--ok, maybe a bit jealous too... Yeah, baby chicks!

Thanks for sharing my excitemtent. I will update with news, but am not sure how to put photos though!

some chicks can pip zip and hatch all within mins some can take over a day from pip to hatch so just like everyone else be patient and pre occupy yourself with something else

I'm actually studying for exams (next week) and my distraction is my chicks 'to hatch'!
