how long to keep the pool going ??

When mine ices over, if it’s thin enough for me to break, I just break it up, and they still get in.

My farm pond froze and thawed several times last year. Sometimes 6” thick! The ducks did fairly well at keeping a small area open, but we had to use a propane torch to melt spots sometimes. They sleep on the pond, even when 98% of it is frozen solid. I’ve never had an issue with frostbite with my ducks.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions everyone.
I do have a smaller size pool maybe I will switch to that now
I have bag balm all ready for everyone
I have hay so that was a good suggestion I usually put it in and outside the coop but not around the pool but for winter i will

Well, I put mine away yesterday. I might get it out once in awhile, but it won't be staying out full of water as there was a hard freeze last night and it was dirty anyway, so just dumped it.

2 weeks ago, I decided to switch out to the smaller winter pool, but then decided to let them have both pools for the weekend as it was going to be nice. They still have both pools. I keep saying that I’ll put away the summer pool the next time I dump it, but..... well.... they like having two pools!
