how long to keep them separate

So a lady on craiglist has had a chicken in her alley the last 2 weeks. She has eggs she is sitting on. She does not want a chicken and we have room for one more. It sounds pretty tame.

So we have 10, how long to keep her apart. I was thinking 4 or 5 days and I thought about picking up the eggs too and letting her keep setting since she may have come from someones home with a rooster? I figured I would let her set for a while on them in the little coop. I want to let her free range with the girls in a few days and see what happens.

Does this sound ok?

You really need to quarantine for 30 days!!

I always recommend a 30-day quarantine. Even if a chicken looks healthy, 30 days gives anything time to materialize without jeprodizing your chickens. Besides, if you're going to keep the eggs too, you might as well keep her and the eggs separated together.

When we got her the eggs and the nest were gone.

She seems good, but missing feathers. i suspect some kind of predator attack. Might explain why it is roaming the streets of Broken Arrow. I bet someone is sad thinking there chicken is eaten. I wish I could find the owners. She is an EE, pretty brown and white.

Know that you have been kind enough to give her a new home. I found a dog once walking the back road I live on; at 10 degrees, I didn't think the little jack russell would make it. I took her in and posted signs all over. 5 weeks went by. I placed her with a nice couple just days before she had her puppies! I know I did my best for her even if I couldn't locate her original family.

really--4 weeks isolation. Feed your other birds first; handle her feeding last. Change cloths and wash, etc before handling your other birds.
