Hi, I am a newer chicken owner and we found one of our smaller girls getting bullied by our head hen. I don't know if she's injured or just in shock. She was trembling I have her seperated in a heated area with water and soaked feed etc.. My real question is how long should I give her to try to recover? I don't want to leave her suffering😓 but, want to save her if I can. Her eyes are shiny and she's no longer trembling but hasn't gotten up yet. No obvious external injury other than pecks to her comb. Thanks for any help. I know there's not much else I can do but wait just don't know how long I should wait to be humane.

She is probably just in shock. I’d give he a good feel all over her body, legs & wings... looking for any spots that are swollen or tender. (Check for swelling by comparing to opposite side). If she seems painful anywhere, post back.... otherwise, just keep her separated for a bit. She should be better soon.

Also, you can feed her some scrambled or chopped hard-boiled egg, or mix some of her feed into a little plain yogurt. This will give her a little protein & vitamin boost.

We can help you with strategies to deal with the bully later, too.

Good luck!

Thank you, this is what I was hoping(shock). I didn't know if another chicken could cause internal injuries or not, I wasn't home when it happened hubby heard the commotion and seperated the injured girl. She doesn't seem to be in pain we have picked her up and checked her over and her eyes are still bright and she responds to pets, she'sone of our sweet ones🥰.

Well she made it and is doing much better found out it's not so much bullying but our top hen mounts others for dominance and this girl was just to small and got her face pushed into the muck( it was a rainy day) question is any way to deter this behavior? Or will we just have to keep this girl separate until she gets up to size?
