How long to wait before helping?

I had one pip yesterday at 1:00 PM that started zipping today and stopped. At 6:00 PM tonight, I took it out and helped it finish hatching. It's now doing great and I've had another one zip and hatch since. You just have to be super QUICK when opening the incubator, so that you don't let your humidity drop too drastically. Good luck!!

Well, I decided the babies had struggled enough so I decided to get them out of their shells. I'm glad I did. One was way too big to turn around in the shell and the top part of the chick was dry. So was the membrane. With the other one, it had been pretty much glued in place. There was no way it could continue to turn to finish zipping.

So, now both babies are out of their shells and back in the bator. I've done what I could. The rest is up to them.

Thanks for the feedback and the support. It's tough to know when to step in and when to leave things up to nature. But standing around and watching two chicks die is not something I'm able to do without at least trying.

ETA: I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get everyone moved into the brooder. I'm excited because I've had three of my green eggs hatch. Can't wait to see what they'll look like when everyone dries off and fluffs up.
