how long to wait until assuming my pullet is egg-bound?

Since she's new to laying she might just be getting into her 'schedule.' But to be safe keep watching her and check if she's pooping. It would also be a safe idea to pull her aside to keep a close eye.If she layed soft eggs today it could have gotten crushed or eaten. Just to be safe give her a warm bath so if there's an egg you can ease it out. Good luck!

Going to try the bath tonight. She has been pooping though so I guess that's a good sign :)

Egg binding could happen this early... either of the soft shell wasn't solid enough to be pushed out. Or like you describe how tiny the eggs are... if it gets a double or triple yolker with a hard shell.

People who feed tums and the like are doing it for the calcium to support the muscles pushing, not trying to firm up the softees per say.

So right now lots of yolks are being released. The ones that get laid two in one day would have probably been slab sided if they were solid. But they are being released far enough apart that at least they aren't giants! I think 9 yolks on a single egg was the record so far.

I personally would not waste my time or effort bathing a perfectly good pullet.

Laying hormone is triggered by light. We are just passed our peak in daylight hours. Adding more light would add to your problem. Some people use extra light in the winter to keep up production. I just add a new layer or two each year to keep up production and let nature take it's course.

Even birds that won't be every day layers often lay every day their first season. My first crew... a barred rock, EE, and Red all laid 21 days or more in a row before taking a 1 day break and then another 21 day round. It's always exciting... and I guess a little scary. :pop

she laid an egg this morning at her usual time with no issue, so I guess she wasn't egg-bound :) thanks everyone for the help!
Many people jump to this drastic conclusion when they don't get eggs when they think they should.....a bird would be acting very sick if they were egg bound.
New layers especially are not consistent layers and any age bird can spend quite a bit of time 'lounging' in or in and out of the nest without laying.

Ok great that she's not egg bound! Did she enjoy the bath? One of my hens loved bathing.
Not so much, haha. But she has a poopy butt right now because she refuses to squat very well when she goes to the bathroom, and she's kinda fluffy, so another bath and a trimming are in order lol. Maybe she'll learn to love baths. Oh, and she's laid three double yolkers in the last few days so I guess we're out of the laying two rubbery-eggs phase at least :)

Great! If she does end up loving baths all the better for her in the summer.
