how long until fertile?

how long after putting a rooster in with hens do you think it will take for the eggs to be fertile?

Really depends on if he starts doing his "job" right away. If he does, I have had fertile eggs sometimes within a few days. But, to be safe I would wait about a week or so. Maybe someone with a bit more experience will chime in - I have only changed out roosters a few times and until recently had just one large mixed flock. I'm sure those that breed pure or show birds will have a little more experience with changing up fellas or even just adding in a fella. I would say with a younger cockeral he might have a harder time getting the hens to submit if they are a small tight group of more mature hens that has never been with a roo. Just depends on alot of things though - crazy chickens...........
