How long were you on Bev Davis waiting list?

math ace, I'm not sure if Bev mentioned this to you or not - but, this all began when she was approached by a large hatchery to purchase her stock. She thought about it, but, in the end, wanted them to go to a breeder, knowing that a hatchery wouldn't keep the line pure. Paul at Greenfire is close to Bev, making it easy for her to work with him on continuing to improve the line. I know Paul has many years of breeding experience, and will do a great job with the stock. I feel so fortunate to have some of them! And, I'll continue breeding so that I also have pure Davis stock within my flock.

I'm not sure if BCMs generally develop this rapidly, but these chicks will be a week old tomorrow. They seem almost twice as big already, they have feathered wings and are sprouting tail feathers! When I pick them up they're a solid handful. Incredible! Their feathered feet are great. I looked at wing feathers at Day 1, 2, & 3, and I'm pretty sure I've got four girls.

I've been following this thread for selfish reasons. I want to add more BCMs to my flock, but I hadn't really checked into the Bev Davis prices. Kind of why I was reading along.

I also noticed IDs that I've read posts from and figured this was a good place to find out what stock you have or admire.

Good to know some of you have the lines. I've actually checked the auctions that a few of you have had and was hoping I'd have some extra money to buy from some of you. Beware, I may be buying from you all.

That all being said. What type of prices are you getting for say, SQ hatching eggs or shipped day olds? I'd really like to have some quality birds along the way.

I started with chickens for two reasons. Fresh eggs and the birds are soothing to me. After showing dogs for most of 40+ years I guess I still like having SQ anything. LOL Actually I just prefer to do things correctly as soon into a project as possible, so although my start in chickens was not so intense I'm working this time around on buying the best I can afford. Hopefully I can keep moving up with time.

I'm far from knowing much of anything about chickens other than I do love them, so I'm really going to be a pain as I'm going to be asking a lot of questions and picking brains until I'm at least knowledgeable enough to know what I'm supposed to be looking for. Guess I should appologize in advance for that. I'm having a hard time with searches on this site for some reason and I know there is a lot on here, but sometimes I also need to just ask a question and let it sink in. I've had mulitiple strokes over the years and even dealt with a brain tumor, so I don't learn as quickly or easily as I used to. It's a really pain in the neck, but eventually I do pick things up.

I want to add that I have seen pics of some of your birds and they are all stunning! Hope to be able to have some as nice in the near future.

HINT: You may get better responses by starting your own thread. . . .

As for my answer to your question: My marans hens are from the Bev Davis and Ron Presley lines.
My Marans roos - - are both from greenfire farms. One is pure bev davis and the other is from Paul's other pen.

I don't have plans to sell or ship eggs anytime soon - - My roos are too young.

Sorry for hijacking your thread. Didn't mean to.

Only Marans I have right now are in the brooder. I have 4 BCM and 2 Wheaten from a Presley and Fox roo over Valentine hens. I've had Cuckoos in the past, but I love the BCMs.

Where do you live ? I may be able to recommend somebody close to you.
I went to Greenfire farms and got what I wanted - - - I saved on the shipping and got to pick the chicks I wanted.
Also, I bought only what I wanted - - not the min needed for shipping.

There are some others I have heard good about that are too far away from me - - - but might be closer to you.

PS - I wasn't offended by your earlier post - - -I just think a posting with a different title would get you more answers

Thanks Math! I'm in Modesto Ca. I'm kind of between Sacramento and SF Bay Area.
Fresno, Stockton are not too far. I drove 240 miles Sunday to pick up a used Sportsman. Depending on where they are located I can get to several areas.

Know anyone in these areas?
