How long were you on Bev Davis waiting list?

Quote:
Agree Wynette, I was fortunate to get Bev Davis stock in my wheatan marans flock so I'm tickled. I'm sure she's swamped and I'll definitely wait as long as it takes! Nancy

Well, it's barely 21 days and the Bev eggs via Greenfire that I posted earlier in this topic are starting to hatch! I ordered 12. He shipped 15, one arrived broken. One was not fertilized. 6 have pips already. I think that's pretty good since they were shipped FL to CA and it's my first time incubating eggs! Maybe I'm counting my chickens before they hatch, but I'm really pleased thus far.

I just contacted Paul at Greenfire farms with some questions. He has always been very good getting back with me with any questions I have had in the past.

I did email Bev - - just to get some idea whether it would be a relatively short or long wait and she did refer me to Greenfire farms.
I had already got my roos from him, but was hoping to get my pullets from Bev.

She said her breeding season was cut short this year

So, it looks like I might have to prepare for a loooooooonnnnnnggggggg wait if I want chicks straight from the source.

CONGRAULATIONS on the hatch. I saw Greenfires hens and a roo when I went to the farm. Those birds are HUGE. They were not flighty at all.

You will LOVE the personality of the marans. I have heard some complain about their personality, but my girls are the BEST in my flock. They get so excited to see me.
I LOVE these birds

I spoke with Bev a few days ago, and it's in fact true that she's selling her flocks. Sigh. I told her how disappointed I was to hear it, and she indicated that she's still very heavily involved in breeding and improving the birds to their proposed standard, as well as educating folks on the breed - this is what Bev truly loves, and she's been such a huge pioneer for this breed - I'm thrilled for her that she's going to be able to do what she truly loves now. And, I feel blessed and fortunate to be one of the lucky ones to have some of her stock.

Wow, I didn't know that! I am glad I got mine while they were available! I am glad she is still working on the breeding and improving of the BCMarans because they still have a ways to go to become accepted by the APA

It makes no sense that Bev emailed me and told me she would put me on her waiting list - -- - - if she was selling her flocks and not going to sell to individuals any more.

New Hen - - they are cute as a button. Please. post some more pictures of the babies as they age. I would love to see what they look like as they grow up. The hens I saw at Greenfire were BIG, Really Big . . . . so stock up on the chick starter . . . ..

I emailed Bev Davis today about the selling of her flocks. She is teaming up with Greenfire farms. She wants to do more breeding and less selling. So Paul at Greenfire will be selling chicks, while Bev works with new colors, etc.

I spoke to Paul at Greenfire yesterday to confirm the Bev Davis flock status. He has two Marans pens - - - one strictly Bev Davis flock and another with birds he has been working with.

So. I may be making a return trip to Tallahassee to pick up a few Bev Davis marans pullets.
