how long will a broody set.

After she has hatched her eggs you can put more chicks under her at night. We had one mama who raised 21 chicks. Nine she hatched and 12 we added.

she hatched one.i went to feed my flock after i got home from work.and when i went to raise her up there was a very tiny peep under her.than i was worried she would smother it.she still has one more egg under her.whoo hoo!

Of course once they are a few days old, you should post pictures.  LOL

Oh yes! That is a requirement! Failure to comply will get the Picture Police after you! :jumpy

Yes... they'll still hatch.
LOL, no, she won't smother it. It'll actually tuck itself in her wings, and near her shanks. Don't check her again until tomorrow late afternoon. Then check both chicks to make sure they are formed right. Then leave her and them be. She'll bring them out to eat on/about the third day. Just be sure to have chick waterer and feeders near them, and the others can't get to them. Keep her isolated for a week or so, then let her do her thing. If they need to go up and down the ramp to get in the coop, you may need to help the chicks get in the coop for a few days, then they'll get it. Mine just took 2 days to get it. Smart little suckers.
the nest sits about two feet off the floor of the coop.should i move her down on the floor.so she can get water and food.or just leaver her be.

i will try to post pictures.i have never tried before.

I would imagine after two months, they didn't.

But they can at LEAST go a couple of days without incubation, as long as it's still warm outside. I know because I just went through this. I had a broody switch nests during a hectic work week. When I found she had switched, her own eggs were chilly, and not warm AT ALL. But I moved her back anyway - only to see her switch AGAIN and end up in the wrong nest the next morning as well. This means her own nest went TWO nights without incubation.

But they are hatching right now. I have about 7 pips with one full-hatch out there now, as I type this. They are a day late in hatching, which is normal since the development was slowed down by the two nights without sitting. But they ARE hatching. And the hatch rate is looking amazing, too!
