How long will a chicken have Coccidiosis?

Just clean droppings up as needed and keep dry with fresh bedding. Chickens have to be exposed to some coccidia to build up a tolerance to it. The problem is if there is an overwhelming number of coccidia oocysts all at once. If they are exposed to some coccidia in the soil, they won't develop that tolerance. Since you have treated for it already, you should be very good to recognize the symptoms. It is impossible to completely clean away coccidia with any cleaning products completely. Be sure and give your chicks some vitamins and probiotics to help them repair beneficial gut bacteria and replace lost vitamins. Good luck.

Thank you. The ones exposed to it bad with the ones that died got the coxoid, the triple C (preventative), probiotic and the electrolyte, plus raw garlic. My entire flock (even the ones who didn't have an contact) got the triple C (preventative), probiotic and raw garlic. They always get vitamins, but I have stopped it because the vitamins can interfere with the coxoid. I clean out there bedding once every 2 days and spray with a vet strength antibacterial spray. I use pine chips as bedding and they have NEVER been outside, only inside in my dinning room in a brooder box. So you bet that it is very clean because I don't like smells. How it got that bad that 4 died is beyond me. This picture is all of them the day before they died, acting normally. There was no sign, they just died and I found them the next morning. After that, the other two who got sick showed symptoms and I removed them from the box and put them in a quite place and syringed them the medicine. They still died. The last two are strong and have been fine and did not show any symptoms at all. The day before I found the dead babies I had bought 2 little polish chicks, I was going to put them under the mama that night, lucky I didn't. The mama hen has adopted many chicks before, she just takes in whatever as her own, she's a beautiful girl. So it's been 4 days since I've seen a bloody poo, do you think it's on to put them in with her now?

I hope that explains everything better for everyone. lol!

But this still doesn't answer my question, can the new babies go in with the babies who were with the chicks who died from it 4 days ago? Is that long enough for the preventative and the medicated food to get in their systems to work and they not die?

I would wait until the 5-7 treatment cycle is over and, upon introducing the new birds I would feed them all medicated feed and once again run the 5-6 cycle of medicated water as well... I always run 7 days of medicated water when I introduce new birds as a preventative...

Any time you put chivkens with other chickens you are introducing them to each other's diseases and parasites. The only thing you can do is put them together and watch very closely for symptoms to appear. You could also put the chckens together and them treat them all for coccidia.

One thing you need to understand about coccidiosis is ther are st least 9 different strains of the protozoa. So if chickens have an immunity to 2 strains but then you put that chicken in with chickens that have another strain, they can all get sick again because they have all just shared each other's parasites.

Thank you for the information. Being so young (2 weeks) I'm very hesitant. I might wait until they are much older.

Already 5 days into giving them the triple C (preventative), medicated food and a probiotic. So wait another weekish?

From my quick reading Triple C is not an effective treatment for coccidiosis, maybe others greater experience or knowledge will chime in...

I would highly recommend Amprolium as it's the most common treatment, and isn't an antibiotic...

I gave them coxoid for it. I used the Triple C as a preventative, plus the medicated food and probiotic. Read the post I did a few posts up with the pictures, it gives more info.
