How long can it take for the chick to start pecking through the egg after hearing pecking? I know it's different with every chick, but how long did it take you'rs?

In my experience its usually anywhere from 30 mins to a day. They will most likely take a break after pipping the egg as that is the hardest part of hatching for them. In many cases it can still b several hours after they pip b4 they actually begin zipping the egg and hatching.

Thanks! I keep hearing it peck at the egg off and on, but yet to see it crack..

I know u r excited but it may b several hours b4 it actually pips the shell and that part itself is so tuff that they usually take a long resting break after. I would try and get some sleep and maybe check back in on it every couple hours if u r waiting to see it hatch. How exciting for u and good luck.

New lifes are always a wait . Yes, I'm excited, but i know it will be a while . I can't seem to sleep due to my sinuses and since i have nothing to do in the morning, i'm not TOO TOO worried abou it haha..

Oh I cant wait to hatch chicks this coming spring...what breeds are you hatching? I plan on hatching my own chickens eggs they are lavender and mottled cochins...and also some Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from the Foley line...maybe a few others but not decided yet

Sadly I'd have better outcome with an incubator but my broke so waiting till I get my new one in. Right now I have, Rhode Island Reds, Ameraucana, Easter Eggers, Seramas, Swedish Flower, and Mixes..
