I was wondering how loud these quail are as stated in the title. My friend lives in the city, and in her area is not allowed to keep chickens. She is a big gardener, but recently, wants to keep quail for eggs as an alternative to chickens. I wanted to surprise her with some Tenn Red Quail. (I am currently checking into city restrictions against quail, I have not found any so far). I found a site that ships juvenile quails. I wanted to get her six, one male and five females if the males are pretty quiet with their crowing. I figured she could use the male for fertile eggs in-case some of the females die. The reason I wanted to get Tenn Reds is because of their large size for a quail, so maybe she could get a little bit bigger egg. The coop is plenty big for six, especially when she adds on the nest box area. If the males are loud, but females are pretty quiet, I will just get her six females. I am aware of the Tenn Reds aggressiveness towards other quail, but I don't think she would be getting others because of the city.

Thanks!

Tennessee Reds are a Bobwhite variety and can be aggressive. From what I've read all Bobwhites tend to be larger and more aggressive. To make it easier on your friend and keep noise down you might want to consider a Coturnix variety. They require less space. They are smaller, but mature faster and are much less aggressive.

I also think the coturnix lay more eggs than bobwhites? And as far as I know bobwhites are usually kept one male to 1-2 females - not sure why, but possibly because they are aggressive if more are kept together. So I agree with Shango - coturnix are more likely to work out and more newbiefriendly than bobwhites.

BTW how loud are Courtnix Quail male? I have heard that they are very loud, but I have also heard they are quiet. Sorry I keep asking stuff, I raise Chickens, not Quail. I know pretty much nothing about quail
