How low should I put the nesting box?

Im not at Home rn, In the picture above you can see some of the nest

When I click on the bird picture, I get a bigger version that shows half-buckets on a shelf above her head. I think those would be the nests.
Ahhh, I see them now! Thanks, sorry about that.

They don't look to easy to get into, maybe attach a piece of wood across those front edges.
Is there bedding in them?
Might be the rounded bottoms don't feel to stable to stand on.

Hello, here are some pictures of the nesting boxes
There are bedding in them, that makes the bottom straight instead of round😊

Is the place where they're laying instead more fully enclosed?

The tops of the buckets are cut back rather deeply -- the hens might not feel private enough.

Also they might feel more comfortable with a perch in front of the nests so that they have a better landing platform than the relatively narrow lip of the bucket edge. :)

The other place they Lay is where the black hen was laying in one of the pictures so on the ground so no I wouldn’t say so. I will try and put a better edge on it😊

I do not think they have to fly straight to the edge of the bucket, because there is a perch sticking straight out in front of the buckets. (Whether they choose to use it, I can't say. But it is there.)

Those are clever. Are they plant pots? I can see they may be tuff for a bird to navigate into easily. Like the idea of a ledge or shelf.
They are actually big buckets my dad cut so they can fit a chicken, what i didn’t know when I installed the nesting boxes was that my hen was gonna get this big and both of my other hens that are medium size hens have no problem getting into it😊 I agree with the ledge or shelf and will try and add some hopefully this weekend😊

My hens hated the bucket nests. I have nests similar to yours in the coop but none of my birds use them anymore since I installed a nesting box outside. I got a used dog house off the side of the road and took the roof off, set it up on its side and installed this inside. I put a tree stump next to it so they can hop up and that's all they use now. One of my Sussex's even tried to brood in it.
