Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

We have such a vibrant community here at BYC... tons of active friendly members. Of course, life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our peeps we haven't heard from in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to. :)

(if that's not you, feel free to invite peeps you haven't seen in a while and say hi to those that post here)
You have been on BYC as long as I have been keeping chickens and I was on BYC at the start but have been inactive for years. I'm expecting an order(of 26) from Murray McMurray. I'm excited and nervous about shipping in the cold. It's been many years since I ordered this many. I'm getting a few for me and a lot to sell. Lynn

Nifty is the owner of backyard chickens.

It is good to see you!

Lynn Grigg here, originally from Winston-Salem NC. Scot and I retired and moved to the middle of nowhere in - the dead center of Virginia. I've been keeping at least five chickens for about 29 years. I have a couple large scary COLD orders coming this month. Some to keep, some to sell (I hope)** laying pullets Black Stars/Astrolorps/ EEs and 2 or 3 breeding trios - astrolorps and faverolles. I wish you hadn't removed the post with a question about a member's hen's vent photo where other byc members were photo shopping crazy replies. I wet my pants.....AT WORK. KEEP ON CLUCKING IT UP!!!! Lynn
It is good to see you here from Virginia!

I retired last summer and still live at the same place. Enjoy the new homestead!

This will never be read since it's over 300 pages on this post but oh well..update time!
I have stepped away from chickens. I needed a break from the constant illness, dramatics, and quite honestly the smell and mess.

I tried my luck with turkey hatching and it went great... til too bold coyotes killed all my hens during broad daylight and one was killed by a neighbor's dog. I do still have 2 Toms who are just here for the vibes and sweet, handsome boys.

I am also now a balls- deep coturnix quail enthusiast. That has been my project and focus for the past year. Night and day with those and chickens. I wont say I'll never have chickens again but it'll definitely be a few more years and it'll just be a small flock of egg laying breeds if I did dip my toes back into that.
Hope everyone is doing well as well as their feathers friend!

I'm on the fence about adding to my flock. They just started Chick days again at all the co-ops around here and I have the chick fever. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I do have to weigh the trouble of setting up a brooder in the house vs waiting for my broody hen to set again. She is pretty much done with raising her last baby, so I would give her another month or so. There is also the housing to consider. I am currently waiting on a new run to be built, which means smaller runs to contain 2-6 chickens for at least 2 hours every night. I would prefer not to add more until I have the run up and secure to allow more space. Otherwise I worry about overcrowding and injuries. There is also the potential that a friend of mine will be acquiring a large flock of Orpingtons that she wants to split. Decisions, Decisions....
