Asperger's Syndrome is a neurological disorder on the autism spectrum that has been recognized only since about 1994. It has many features of classical autism, but it lacks the intellectual learning disabilities. Individuals with this syndrome have difficulty with social aspects of intelligence, such as understanding what those around them think and feel. As a result, they often behave inappropriately in social situations or act in ways that appear unkind or callous. Many have difficulty planning and coping with change despite average or even exceptional intelligence in academic or intellectual areas.
My brother has AS as well as defiance disorder. AS will often be accompanied by other issues, when they are meshed together it is often hard to decifer which condition is causing which behaviour.
I see alot of kids now diagnosed with add and adhd when I doubt they even have that. I think alot of kids react to their environments. ALOT of parents don't bother to be parents anymore. kids are not repremanded or are over repremanded w/out being spent time with or told what they should/shouldnot be doing and why. They are growing up with TV and video games in place of parents. I see it all the time, my neighbors kid is 16 and dropped out of school. he doesnt do anything but cause trouble all day long, he swaers at his grandparents and throw tantrums but I tell ya, he comes over to our house and he has manners and respect and helps me weed my garden and pushes my grocery cart in the store and we play cards and borde games with him... he collects eggs from my chickens....he got his report card and came ringing our doorbell to show US!
he has a 'councelor' that would come over to see him and I could hear the way she was talking with him was NOT how I would be talking to a kid with problems- it was making him worse and he finally told her off and she reacted like she had an anger issue herself and drove off. ????!!!!???? then his grandparents were swearing at him and throwing things around because they were mad.???
I seriously dont think the KID is the one with the problems.....
I find alot of disorders to be excuses for bad parenting. (not all- but some)
