How many boxes?

We are getting a total of six chickens and were wondering, how many nesting boxes should we have? We were thinking three. Can chickens share boxes or will there be fights?

Several hens will share the same box. I'm making 3 for our 12 hens.

We have 6 hens and 3 boxes, they usually only use 2 of them.

3 wouldn't hurt but they will get by with 2. If you plan on adding chickens later the extra box wouldn't hurt. I have 3 boxes for 9 hens.
