thank you everyone, I so love the two many neighbors one, we have had trouble with our neighbors before someone turned us in to children services for a filthy house they came out and laughed and said wow becareful you have some mean people up here who have an axe to grind with you. my house gets clutered becuse I work at the school and do homework with our son take care of the animals and can and cook meals and such but it is far from filthy. the man from the childrens service even said so. it stinks we can not even find out who did it. people out here are like two fuding extreams. some are here for the remote ness and dont want to be bugged they have there animals and gardens and live off the land alot. the others are here for the fact that they got the land cheap and they can have parties and have a status I guess of being in the country. they freak out that I use compost we make in the garden and can not belive I dry cloths by the fire in the winter. they hate that we have two chicken coops on our property and wont even entertain the thought that we may get a goat for milking. our son said it best I think when he looked at somone being nasty to me when we were out for a walk. they looked at me and said so how many animals are you up to now. our son said well grab a cup of coffee and come over, mom says there is always room for love and friends, you should of seen there face. they dont talk to me much now... how funny he was truly thinking they would come over...

In Houston, so long as your coop is 100 ft from the neighbors house (house, not property line) you can have 30 chickens on a 65x125 area. In the city limits. LOL hoarding? With 3 acres? Seriously? Some people just don't have anything to do but worry about what someone else is doing. Plenty people here have hundreds of chickens. Wow, I guess they are super hoarders.

"Hoarding" used this way is one of my pet peeves, too. People that have 60 cats in a 1 bedroom apartment, now, that is hoarding. What you are doing is reasonable.

Too many chickens is when you can't possibly do all the work to care for them, the expense is too much, and the smell drives you from your home! Otherwise, enjoy your chickens - goats, children, whatever.

AMEN! I think you should ask if they would like a dozen eggs..... kill em with kindness... If that does not work walk out side to feed your chickens in your pajamas and hair curlers with a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other, first thing in the morning. Maybe they will move!

Seriously you can't make everyone happy all the time, but if you are following the law, you have happy heathy chickens, and your happy then it's all good.

ok I must be tired I was typing got up to help our son with something and came back and it was gone, did it post? I thik the question is not do I have to many birds but do I have to many other things on my plate, :O

My flock ranges freely on nearly two-thirds of an acre, and their coop is a former garage, 17 X 20 feet. Going by the minimum square footage of coop space per chicken (4) I could keep a maximum of 84 standard sized chickens housed in it. As long as I was able to keep them fed, watered, healthy and happy. I am able to do so with my 60+

So, yes, you are a "lightweight" with 30 chickens on 2.3 acres. Certainly not a hoarder. *I* am a hoarder... But I haven't started gathering up stray chickens and keeping them in my house or anything which would be characterized as hoarding.

I jus' gots me lots of chickens, is all. And some ducks and a pair of geese. Oh, add two dogs and a cat to that list.

I'm sorry you have such nasty, minding-your-business neighbors.

I would consider 'hoarder' as an insult, period.

Are you far enough out of the city limit to be zoned as agricultural ? or Residential/Agricultural ? In which case you are fine.

2 acre and 30 birds does not seem too much for me. SUr ethe 5 roosters could be an issue ...any chance to build the coop/run away from a specially riled up neighbor ?

Otherwise, yeah, 8 ft wooden fence ?
