How many chickens can you have?

We can have 30 per acre as we are zoned agriculture. I have 1 Buff Brahma Roo, 15 Buff Brahma hens, 2 Buckeyes hens and 6 chicks that the mamas hatched and are raising. Two chicks are crosses and I can't wait to see how they end up. To this point it looks like they are red with feathered feet! Coop is a 8X16 barn with two safe runs. We also free range much of the time, even with the predator pressure - bald eagles, mink, fox, coyotes, raccoons, osprey, you name it we have something trying to eat our chooks.

I have just under 5 acres. Per my zoning, I may have 1 animal unit per acre. An animal unit is 1 cow/horse, 4 pigs, 10 sheep/goat, or 100 poultry/rabbits. Therefore I can have 400!! I (only) actually have 40 though, half of which are chicks I sell.

I really don't know. One thing I read said 6 (or 10, I don't recall exactly) hens, no roos on any residential lot. Another thing I read talked about 20 (or 30, again IDR) per acre. They really could make it more clear as to what is allowed.

I do have 12 hens and 1 roo. And recently bought an incubator. With any luck, I'll get 3 pullets and be able to sell the rest.
I learned one thing recently. When selling to farm folks, they can tell better than me when it comes to roos and pullets. I practically begged that dude to take more! 😂

Holy smokes!!! 90 acres sounds like a dream!! I’m limited to 8 but I’m trying to see if I could have 10. 😜 Like who would really know. Otherwise, I will have to rehome 2.
If you live in a city limits, Google the municipal codes for livestock. I live in a three city conglomeration within a few miles, cities are only separated by a paved street. Each "city" has its own rules about how many chickens. Here, all of them say no roosters, but the number of hens will depend on the square footage of the property, not the chicken coop.

I live inside city limits and here is what our ordinance says:
THE NUMBER OF CHICKENS THAT MAY BE KEPT ON ANY LOT MAY NOT EXCEED SIX CHICKENS FOR EACH ONE-HALF ACRE OR PORTION OF ONE-HALF ACRE OF LOT AREA;
THE LOT WHERE CHICKENS ARE KEPT SHALL BE FENCED TO PREVENT CHICKENS FROM LEAVING THE LOT; AND
A PROTECTIVE COOP SHALL BE MAINTAINED ON THE LOT TO PROVIDE SHELTER FOR THE CHICKENS. THE COOP SHALL BE OF A SUFFICIENT SIZE TO ACCOMMODATE THE NUMBER OF CHICKENS KEPT ON THE LOT AND SHALL BE LOCATED IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL LOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AN ACCESSORY STRUCTURE AS SET FORTH IN SUBSECTION G. OF THIS SECTION. NOTWITHSTANDING CHAPTER 210, BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, OF THIS CODE, A BUILDING PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A COOP REQUIRED BY THIS PARAGRAPH
