how many chickens did you start out with??

Started with 6 hatchery chicks five years ago. Now I have well over 30 SQ birds!

The 7, then 6, then 4..... 17 total now.

Our family had chickens for a while, but they got picked off by a possum or something. When the chickens were sort of actually my thing, I had one Red Dorking male named King George.

Started with 5 from the feed store. Now 25 I think. Let's see there's Duc and his 5 hens, Eddie and his 2 hens, Cloud with her 6 chicks, the other 3 silkies, the 9 banties in the pen and the 21 I hatched last week. Oh and the 4 silkie chickes I picked up today. That's 53 right now.

Oh wait I forgot the big goofy hen and the other cochin roo. Ok 55 I think. No I have a showgirl too, 56? That's close enought.

Aug of 2007 I got 10 now I have 26 and trying to figure out how to get more room! "honey my mom says ducks lay wonderful eggs for baking." My mom didnt say that I saw that here lol "Jerry, Rose Mary said if I had white eggs she would buy them" Still getting no more chickens lol

22 I ordered 16 pullets and got 22 chickens, 17 pullets and 5 cockerels (sp) (I like chicken math

What a great question! i started out with just two. "Honey, can i get two chickens, just so we can have fresh eggs?". Now we have 30 adults standards and bantams), 27 baby chicks, and an incubator full of eggs.

Chickens truly are addictive.

For many years we hatched chickens in the Children's Dept. of the Library where I worked. Not wanting to have to dispose of the babies who were such a great joy to the children who watched them hatch, we always bought eggs of rare breeds. We always found homes for them, many went to 4her's. Our favorite breed to hatch was Salmon Faverolles. One year I kept a trio to maturity and got hooked. I already had owned ducks for years, but the chickens stole my heart.

I started out with 5 chicks last spring, then went back two days later to get 2 more. Then a couple of months later I got 4 more from a friend who couldn't keep them. One turned into a roo so I gave him away (down to ten) and now I am hopefully getting either 3 or 4 more to make a grand total of 13 or 14.
