How many chickens will fit?

I am planning a coop and wondering what will fit in each of these scenarios:

4'x4' hen house attached to, 8'x4' run (probably will make it so run extends to under henhouse, so that would be 12x4 run)

Whole thing probably 5-5.5' high.

Other scenario is 4 feet smaller, still 4x4 coop, attached to 8x4 run.

How many would each fit?

i would put five or six large breed chickens...some people might tell you less but i think that would be fine

I guess I'll be one to tell you less (depending). The standard rule of thumb is 4 sf per standard sized hen inside the coop and 10 sf per hen in the run.

Your coop (16 sf) is a good size for 4 hens - your 12' x 4' run (48 sf) will be good for 5 hens, so I would say that you could keep 5 hens total.

If you use the other option and make the smaller 8' x 4' run (32 sf), then you should not keep any more than 3-4 hens.

We were thinking of similar dimensions, but we will have 4 large breeds and 2 bantums. Should be enough space for them,huh?
