How many chickens would you need to keep to supply all the meat and eggs your family eats?

You quoted me so I assume you would like a response.
I take it you mean this post.

You probably mean this paragraph.
"Often the person that has thrown the food on the ground stands there watching with a satisfied smile on there face; maybe they’re thinking they’re glad they are not like this.. I think this is rather demeaning for both humans and chickens, throwing scraps of food and watching other creatures fight over them."

I can't see the word sadist in there.
I could if I could be bothered link to a few videos of people doing exactly this. I'm sure you can find them yourself.

I never wonder why people get defensive.
I do scraps but across the whole yard so everyone gets a fair amount and no fighting. That's at dinner time after everyone has eaten their fair amount of chicken feed.

I didn’t read this thread at all but I’m gonna guess Shadrach is wrong again. :gig
I’m just joking shadrach. I skimmed though and your numbers are way off. Americans eat way more than they should so I don’t see that reflected in your figures. ;)
It wasn't something I thought I should mention due to the sensitivity of the subject.

I've done the throw food at them myself. I still do occasionally if I'm in a hurry or the general panic alarm goes off.

A few of the more intelligent posters seem to have understood that this is a model and is unrealistic for the average backyard keeper.

Seems I must somehow fit into the above category ... or maybe just too dumb to figure it out???

I mean who in their right mind goes out and plans to raise chickens for meat, designs a model, and chooses a breed that dresses out at a whole whopping pound??? ;)
