how many chickens

There is no magic number that covers us all. We keep them in so many different conditions, in so many different climates, and use such different management techniques that no one magic number can cover is all. In general, the tighter you pack them the more likely you are to have behavioral problems you need to deal with, the harder you have to work, and the less flexibility you have to deal with any problem that might come up.

I suggest you follow the link in my signature to get my thoughts. It might help.

How many can I put in a 5x10 run and a 10x10 run?

5' x 10' = 50 square feet / 4 = 12 1/2 chickens. On the half chicken, it would be up to you if it would be the top or bottom half or a one legged half.

10' x 10' = 100 square feet / 4 = 25 chickens. Solves the problem of trying to feed and water a half chicken.

Bantam chickens add a few more. Giant chickens subtract a few. Chance of keeping them locked in the coop for several days, subtract a few more.
