How many chicks in your brooder this spring? Update...

As of today, I have 34 in my brooder....

*6 RIR
*6 Barred Rock
*6 White Rock (I think)
*4 Black sexlink
*2 Black Australorp
*10 mixed

10 six week old chicks in one, 9 three week old chicks in another, and 12 one week old chicks in a third. OH! And four call ducklings in a temporary (big cardboard box) brooder in the incubation room. (Ran out of space in the bathroom.)

The six week olds will be moving to the ginormous brooder in the shed this weekend, for another couple of weeks before I have their lodging set up in the yard.

5 black australorp (6 wks old - hatched from our eggs)
9 bantam blue silkies (4 wks old)
11 bantam eggers (4 wks old)

4 days old:
-1 black sex link (pullet hopefully)
-2 white leghorns (pullets hopefully)
-20 black australorp (s/r hopefully)

3 days old:
-black australorp (hatched from our egg)
-2 easter eggers (hatched from our eggs)

... and more coming!

A.T. Hagan :

Just at the moment my brooder is...

...EMPTY!

But that's because I just took out fifty eight ISA Browns to put into their grow-out pen.

But wait! There's more!

Before those I had fifty four White Leghorns in that brooder. They're in their own grow out pen now.

So now the brooder sits empty. Waiting. Lonely.

But only until the end of the month when the White Midget turkeys and the Cuckoo Maran chickens hatch out. Should be about twenty or so.

And behind them at about two weeks later the eggs I don't take to the county fair incubation display will hatch about two weeks later (should be about fifteen to twenty) then a few days after those will come the next lot of White Midget turkeys. Hopefully about 20-22 of those.

That's all I have scheduled. So far.

So, you see, you're all behind the program here. Get with it!

I have an excuse, my grow out pens are still full of snow and ice! We are expecting more tomorrow!

Oh, and the latest development....2-3 inches of water in the basement from the thawing and rainstorms. Now, my poor chickies are floating! Actually, I have them up off the floor now. Nothing like this happened last year! I can't put them out in the garage yet, they will freeze! This sucks.

2 backyard mixes
3 lavender orpingtons
3 black copper marans
2 blue laced red wyandottes
2 easter eggers
1 blue cochin

Putting last batch (20 eggs) of the season in the incubator tomorrow.

Right now I have 17 serama, 2 OEGB, 4 BCM, 1 mixed bantam, 3 silkies, and 2 ducklings in one brooder. Another has 2 BCM, 3 silkies, and 1 EE. The third I'm not sure about...I know there is 1 serama, 2 silkies, and 2 BCM in there along with another 5-8 EE. The outside 'brooder' has 2 d'uccles, 4 bantam cochins, 2 EE, 1 BCM, 2 OEGB, 1 silkie, and 1 white leghorn mix. I think that's all of them
