how many cover their coop floor with linoleum?

I did and don't regret the extra $ it cost me (about $50) one bit! I can't tell you how many times the water has been spilt and I didn't have to worry, because I knew the vinyl would protect the plywood that I had down for the floor.

I too, use pine shavings and the coop has been so much easier to sweep out. It is also much, much easier to disinfect.

It's only slippery IME if you don't have enough bedding on it. Frankly, painted plywood can be kinda slippery with insufficient bedding, too.

I have (sheet) vinyl flooring in the pens that are converted from dog use (bldg was originally fitted out as boarding/breeding kennel, not by me), and I have painted OSB and bare slab floors in other pens. I don't see a big difference in performance, honestly. The vinyl is perfectly fine (kept sufficiently well bedded up) but so is the rest of it.

A vinyl highly-textured enough to really prevent slipping when a bird hops down from the roost or runs in the popdoor would be so highly-textured as to eliminate the main reason people seem to use vinyl, that being the ease of cleaning (poo doesn't stick to it very firmly).

Given how badly the vinyl tiles tend to have peeled at the edges in our house and in other places I've known (especially outdoor places, like barn bathrooms and tackrooms), I sure wouldn't put them in a coop myself. Thus no personal experience to recount with tiles in coop

Vinyl will detoriate faster than dirt floors LOL.

I use horse rubber mats, great if you need to really peel off the stuff.

I had a friend that put down those lino tiles (similar to school and fed buildings) and they look great! She said its easy to clean up but slick for chicks if you dont have all the areas covered.

I have two coops... One with and one w/o vinyl... I wish I had vinyl in both. I use shavings on top. It's a LOT easier to clean up and frozen shavings and poopies from vinyl than wood and the floor is protected if water spills. I would not use it bare... No traction. But with shavings it's great!

I just finished my coop this weekend. I put linoleum on the floor and covered it with pine shavings for the peeps. They're 6 weeks old and love it.

Before moving it (I've since painted that door over the storage bin)

First night in the hen house - they love their 2"x4" roosts!

Keep your options open if you are unsure. You can buy a piece of cheap vinyl (I wouldn't use tiles for reasons mentioned) and lay it down and just cover it with chip. It will stay down pretty good if you have enough chip or shavings on it. If you decide you like it, you can clean the coop out and glue or tack it down. If not, just pull it out.

I used a sheet of remnant linoleum supplemented by cheap tiles to cover the rest of the floor. The tiles started to come up almost immediately and I ended up stapling them down. Next time (when I expand the coop) I will stick with sheet linoleum. I love the ease of cleaning and I haven't had a problem with anybody slipping (of course it's covered with about 4" of shavings).

We used a linoleum remnant ($15.00) to cover the floor in our main coop and love it! I use the deep litter method in the coop and don't worry about the birds slipping since I put down atleast 6" of pine shavings and dried leaves on the floor.
