I have 3 Buff Orpingtons and 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes that were hatched in March; they started laying in August. Total for 2011 was 717 eggs. That five or six eggs each day really adds up! I had no idea the girls had produced that many eggs until I did the "chicken math".
Our end of year egg count was a total of 282 eggs collected since the reds started laying in september. That's 13 1/2 dozen wonderful happy-chicken-eggs. Rosie's the champion with 110 eggs. Lucy's a close second with 108. Anna is slowing down now that the days are shorter and she started later, so she managed 40. Luna - who has Stopped laying for now cause she's brooding (tho there's no eggs under her to hatch!) gave us 19. And Tara, the late bloomer gave us her first egg on Christmas eve - has a 2011 total of 5 eggs. Go girls!
Actually started counting 6/1/11 with ten layers and 6 pullets that started Sept/Oct/Nov first POL. From that I got 1765 eggs. I estimate that the 10 probably laid a 7 avg. a day prior to 6/1 which is in the area of a 1000 give or take when you factor in great days and bad =good. Those 10 were in their pullet year which is their best laying time.
