I have 36 Golden comets.
I covered three horse stalls to house the group. I have nesting boxes in two and the 3 is open. I let them free range when the temp is up in the 30's otherwise i will keep them in.

I use shavings for bedding, with 2 community boxes and 4 individual next boxes.

I also use additional lighting. The light comes on at 6 and off at 8 am
I also comes on at 4 pm and off at 8 pm. I noticed they would give me 34 to 36 with the lights on. Usually all by 9 AM.
I checked my records without the light high 20's to 32. I have a couple that will give me the last couple of eggs late morning.

temp was 15 here this morning,I got 11 from my 16 gold comets, won't be long untill the daylight hours will pick up and so will my hens,No lights in the henhouse this year

8 from 9...well the 9th Hen barely matured so I'm sure there will be eggs soon! They seem to get bigger though!

got 8 out of 21. Two days in a row.
I gave them some mixed black and red pepper on the 27th of Dec. and will repeat on Friday 1-7-2012. I don't know if this caused the increase in eggs or not but I 'm gonna try it.
