Good luck AmericanMom ! On one hand I can't wait to see what our record for eggs in a day will be...on the other,I'm like "can I sell 3-4 dz a day?" Lol After all the broody girls and what's in the incubator, and eating extra cockerels, we'll end up with 50-60+ hens and 6-7 roos.

After culling the older hens and the young rooster at the end of this month we will be left with 2 three year old laying hens, 5 one year old laying hens and 10 pullets set to start laying in march or April...I also have 23 in my incubator set to hatch on the 30th....Got a possible on maran eggs and maybe Orpingtons by June (??) and of course I'll round it out with mutts from our hens...Also got to save time for Turkey eggs (on the list) that I should get around March or April.. I think my chicken math could use a tweeking to keep up with you

We have elderly folks living on all sides of us that always throw scraps and such out to the chickens, I in turn provide them with eggs, when they lay good the neighbors sometimes throw a 50pd bag of feed into the mix for us...Its a win win...Also got lots of folks from our church that love the fresh eggs, I have never tried to sell them because our arrangement works out great.

My 18wk old ISA Browns laid their first ever egg 6 days ago..... & given me 8 eggs in 6 days. Although yesterday someone popped out this little practice egg..... So cute!! Can you really tell from shell colour, what eggs are coming from what chook breed??

Just the chicken ridding itself of some extra calcium.
You don't usually see it in store-bought eggs due to aesthetic reasons and a lack of chicken education in general society.
Most people would think there was something wrong with the egg/the chicken it came from despite being completely normal for a chicken to do.
Oh okay then thanks!

Even chickens from the same breed can have slightly different colors. My sex links, silkies, brahmas, RIRs and EEs are all a little different. My Marans range drastically from speckled brown to super dark. Have to catch them to know which egg belongs to which chicken. Should be really easy with a smaller flock.

We trade occasionally also, which is nice. Baked goods from girlfriends since they like using the fresh eggs, people who sell salsa/veggies at the farmers market who know we have chickens. But, for the most part, we sell for $3 a dozen. A feed store we use also takes them for $3.50 store credit...which really adds up. And my daughter can walk through my work and sell tons. She's 3 so she even gets tips. "Three dodders" she says, since dollars is a harder word. Lol Chicken math cracks me up because its so true. When people ask how many chickens we have and I really just take a guess they don't understand how I don't know. Because once you have a few dozen chickens...does an exact number matter?? Lol There's a lady I get my Marans eggs from near me. Pretty and dark and the chicks are very healthy and chubby if you don't have anyone to get them from. Just incase you can't find darker eggs. Black coppers.
