Most likely just stepped on it. I don't use those eggs for eating but I take them and scaramble them up and put in the tablescraps and feed them back to the chickens. Extra protein for them.

I occasionally get an egg with a small speck or lump of extra calcium on it. The other day I scratch at one and the lump came off, leaving a small hole behind. Perhaps as a hen is scratching in the nest that could happen too.

Just the chicken ridding itself of some extra calcium.
You don't usually see it in store-bought eggs due to aesthetic reasons and a lack of chicken education in general society.
Most people would think there was something wrong with the egg/the chicken it came from despite being completely normal for a chicken to do.

12/12- I thought hens laid less in the winter. Guess not! Wish I could let our dogs around the girls but I am afraid of what would happen!

28 yesterday! Woot woot! Finally as the pullets are at POL they are compensating for all the broody girls. So....37-ish laying now and a few more to go.
